Maybe I'm overthinking it, but I'm having some reservations about handing out Halloween candy.
My man D suggests I may be taking things too seriously, but I don't know. I feel like if I'm going to walk the PCP talk, I can't possibly be dishing out the sweets to the already hyper-sugared neighborhood kids. Not to mention that any leftover candy always goes straight to work with D, and his shop of 30-50 year old guys who don't need it either.
"So, what are you going to do," D asks, "be one of those annoying ladies who gives out apples?"
What do you guys think, am I overreacting? If not, what to give out? Small bags of pretzels (which are really a bunch of crappy refined flour and salt)?
I'm with you, Shelly!
ReplyDeleteSome ideas from my CSA's most recent newsletter:
Halloween themed temporary tattoos, stickers, pencils, fancy erasers, miniature magnifying glasses, plastic jewelry/decoder rings, glow-sticks, tiny decks of cards, bubbles, miniature flashlight key chains, yo-yos, or snacks like wrapped popcorn balls, trail mix, and packages of animal crackers
My partner and I don't hand out candy. We usually give out the microwave popcorn that comes in the small individual serving sizes. (Act II makes them in special Halloween designs.) The kids love it every year, mainly because it looks "bigger" than the candy bars. Perception is always key.
ReplyDeleteI hear you and think this is awesome.
ReplyDeleteI think you finally found a reason to go to the Dollar store. Stickers of any kind, hair accessories for the girls, and lots of toys for the boys. Magic tricks? You can easily go with the "trick" part of the holiday.
Healthy snacks is tough. We know, right? But trailmix bars, anything with healthy grains, even oatmeal packets w/out sugar if possible. Good luck!
Great ideas -- thanks guys!
ReplyDeleteYou could hand out PCP workout sheets.
ReplyDeleteNow you're talking! Well, maybe I can give those to the parents.
